Education
Overview
JCAHPO's continuing education (CE) programs are designed to increase the knowledge
and skills of ophthalmic medical personnel as they work toward certification or
recertification. CE credits are awarded for participation in a wide range of programs
and activities including lectures and workshops, independent study, and teaching
approved courses. CE credits may be earned through participation in JCAHPO programs
as well as independent programs approved for credit by JCAHPO.
Group A/B Credits
JCAHPO CE credits are classified as Group A or Group B. Credits can be earned from
either or both groups, depending on the level of certification. Group A credit is
awarded for activities focused on topics listed in the
JCAHPO Criteria for Certification and Recertification
handbook; Group B credit is awarded for activities focused on more advanced
topics not listed in this handbook.

E-Learning – ACT!ON
JCAHPO created the E-Learning Web site, www.actioned.org to serve the online continuing education needs of the ophthalmology profession. Short for Assessment, Certification, Training, Interactive Ophthalmology Network (ACT!ON), the site is the premier learning resource for the entire eye care team.
JCAHPO united with the Association of Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology (ATPO), the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses (ASORN), the Canadian Society of Ophthalmic Medical Personnel (CSOMP), the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS), and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) to establish this innovative resource for eye care professionals.
Personnel may take online courses and earn and track credits in one easy online location at www.actioned.org.
