COA Examination Postponed; Computer-simulated COMT Performance
Test Date Set
The COA multiple-choice examination update will be postponed until
August 2009. JCAHPO will conduct a new job task analysis (JTA) survey to verify
medical science-related content areas. The JTA will exclusively assess duties that
require technical knowledge and skill. Future examination content will reflect technical
and medical value as it relates to ophthalmic medical personnel in the field.
Beginning in August, 2009, the computer-simulated version of the COMT Performance
Test will be released as part of our new criteria for certification. The hands-on
examination scheduled for September 20, 2008, will be the last chance for new examinees
to take the Performance Test before the examination switches to computer-simulation.
The computer-simulated COMT Performance Test will increase accessibility by allowing
for year-round examination delivery and eliminate extensive travel costs.

Continuing Education Programs
Tom inspired everyone at last year's annual meeting and will return as the Harold
A. Stein guest speaker this coming fall. If you were unable to experience Tom's
unique brand of positive thinking, make sure to take advantage of select CE events
and hear Tom's keys to overcoming adversity. Below are upcoming continuing education
opportunities where Tom will be speaking. Join us and help make continuing education
a priority for allied health personnel in ophthalmology.
AMD TechTrax
AMD TechTrax, a program featuring a panel of speakers discussing age-related macular
degeneration (AMD), is a new segment offered at select
JCAHPO continuing education programs. Supported by an unrestricted educational
grant from Genentech Inc., this 4-hour program is designed for ophthalmic personnel,
medical assistants, and medical or ophthalmic photographers who care for patients
with AMD.
NEW in 2008 - Electronic CE Credits
In an effort to go "green," credit letters are no longer mailed. JCAHPO
will make annual and regional meeting credits available online through the Online
Service Center. You can access and print copies of your JCAHPO continuing education
record at any time. To access your credits, visit the Online Service Center using
the link on the left side of the page and click on "CE Activities."
Online Store coming in 2008!

CEC Application changes effective August 2008
Effective August 1, 2008, JCAHPO will implement a new
Criteria and Application for Continuing Education Credit. The new CEC Application
will provide the same high quality access to continuing education opportunities
to ophthalmic medical personnel previously available. JCAHPO values the time and
effort our certificants take to gain certification in a competitive health industry,
so we are committed to assisting you during this transitional phase. To facilitate
the process, revised application steps and policies will be available in the spring
of 2008 in advance of the August launch date.
